Shinji Japanese
Overview
Stone that holds its own in a room built to impress.
Shinji Japanese Restaurant at 333 Bay Street called for surfaces that could carry the weight of a high-volume hospitality program without losing any of their edge. Because the space needed to feel considered rather than purely functional, Solid Stone supplied and fabricated the bar tops and feature surfaces in terrazzo porcelain — materials chosen for their depth of character as much as their durability. Every piece was templated and cut in Concord, so it could land seamlessly at Shinji Japanese on opening night, July 8.

The Brief
Shinji Japanese Restaurant needed surfaces that could absorb the pace of a busy Bay Street dinner service while still reading as considered and precise. That's why we specified Ceppo di Gré terrazzo for both the bar tops and feature surfaces at Shinji Japanese — a material whose natural texture and muted warmth grounds the space without competing with it. Every piece was templated on site in Concord and installed ahead of the July 8 opening, with seams and transitions detailed to disappear into the design.
The Details
Remnant stone. Refined.
The chopstick rests were cut from the same porcelain slabs used for the bar tops — material that would otherwise leave the shop as offcut. Each one was hand-finished in Concord, a small detail that carries the full character of the stone all the way to the table setting.
